From lawn care to student to software developer at ElentraSeptember 24, 2021
When Philip Lalonde started his family, he felt he needed a change. For six years, he had managed a lawn care business, and it was, as he puts it, “like the wild west.”
“It was a very hectic environment, and I was putting in very long days,” Philip explains. “I knew that if I wanted to be able to be there for my two boys as they grew up, I needed to embark on a new career.”
Philip decided to enrol at St. Lawrence College. At first, he planned to study Civil Engineering. However, the college offered a strong three-year program in software development, which he found attractive. Overcoming his initial concern that the program would be too challenging, he enrolled and thrived with the help of a very supportive spouse. “I found that I loved software development.”
In the summer of 2020, Philip embarked on an internship at Elentra and found he and the company really “clicked.” This past April, he joined the company full-time, but in September he returned to part-time as he completes his studies. He will return to full-time in the spring.
Why is he keen to work at Elentra?
“When I joined Elentra, it was quite small, but in the last few months, we have really scaled up and almost doubled our staff,” Philip explains.
“I can’t wait to see what things are like when we have even more developers on staff and see how we can take the platform to new heights. There are so many other markets we could serve.
“The future is bright!”
